Classroom Volunteer Position Description   Classroom Volunteer Duties:  Classroom Volunteers assist with daily classroom activities for children 6 weeks to 5 years old. Specific tasks and activities include:  Interacting, playing, and engaging with the children.  Supporting a child's interaction with other children using toys, art supplies, and participation in classroom activities.  Assisting the children with hand-washing and preparing for meal times.  Assisting the classroom teacher and teacher assistant with transitions between different class segments.  Helping to supervise the children and keep them safe.   Classroom volunteers always operate under the supervision and guidance of HAFC teachers and teacher assistants.  Required Qualifications:  Commitment

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary: A snapshot of the 1970s-80s

A snapshot of the 1970s-1980s HECC worked to improve the Jonquil Hotel, a run-down housing facility prone to crime in the 1970s. The neighborhood In the 1920s–1970s, Rogers Park saw an influx of people fleeing oppression, including African Americans from the South, and European, Vietnamese, and Latino/a immigrants. Rogers Park faced a housing crisis. This was intensified by an initiative to desegregate the city. Northpoint Apartments in Rogers Park were given incentives from the city and federal government to offer reduced rent to attract low-income Black people on the South and West Sides to move to the Northside.
