Part-Time Program Supervisor
Position Description: The Howard Area Reading Program (HARP) is seeking to hire a program co-supervisor for the school year 2023-24. This iconic volunteer-based after-school program serves 2nd through 4th graders at-risk for reading at Oakton Elementary School in Evanston. HARP tutors provide 1-on-1 tutoring and are matched to a single child with whom they work throughout the school year. The literacy model is based on National Louis University’s Howard Street Tutoring Program established in 1979. The program’s longevity reflects a positive culture of careful supervision, tutor satisfaction, and student growth. The Howard Area Reading Program is part of the Howard and Evanston Community Center.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or teaching equivalent in reading or literacy
- Reading Certification or background teaching reading in the primary grades
- Experience in cooperative team building
Responsibilities:
- Supervising a team of volunteer tutors two afternoons per week
- Creating individualized lesson plans
- Recruiting volunteer tutors
- Training volunteer tutors
- Communicating with classroom teachers, parents, and administration
- Liaising with the Director of Youth Services at our parent organization, Howard and Evanston Community Center
- Approximately 20 hours a week
