We proudly serve students in the Greater Rogers Park Area and Evanston.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer mentors work one-on-one with one student throughout the duration of the program. Students are in second through fourth grade. HARP Volunteers mentor and tutor children to combat illiteracy and build children\u2019s confidence in themselves and their academic ability.<\/p>\n<p>HARP Reading Specialists train new volunteers, using the National Louis University clinic model. All lesson plans and materials will be provided, and tutoring is always supervised by our program manager who will be able to provide support as needed.<\/p>\n<p>Substitute tutors would be reached out to as needed when a regular tutor cannot make the program.<\/p>\n<p><b>Time Commitment: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Must have availability during at least one of the time slots listed below.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thursdays 3:10-5:00 PM<\/p>\n<p>November through mid-May<\/p>\n<p><strong>Starts 11\/4\/2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>DUTIES\/RESPONSIBILITIES:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tutor and mentor one student once a week to combat illiteracy and build academic confidence.<\/li>\n<li>Attend all trainings as assigned by our program manager.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize curriculum and materials as assigned by our program manager.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>QUALIFICATIONS:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be at least 18 years of age<\/li>\n<li>Able to keep to a consistent schedule<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Interest in working with eager struggling readers<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to follow our lesson plans<\/li>\n<li>Good sense of humor!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are interested, please fill out our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.volgistics.com\/ex\/portal.dll\/ap?ap=1397454859\">volunteer application here<\/a>, and our volunteer coordinator will reach out to you shortly.<\/p>\n<p>Under \u201cVolunteer Interest,\u201d please select \u201cother\u201d and specify the HARP Program in the box below.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Position: Howard Area Reading Program (HARP) Substitute Volunteer Department: Youth Development Services\u00a0 Location: Oakton Elementary School in southeast Evanston, 436 Ridge Ave, Evanston, IL 60202 Reports to: Barbara Kaufman General Description: HARP is one of the longest-running literacy programs in the country\u2013serving children for over 40 years!
